Anglian Water and Cambridge City Council, working with U+I and TOWN, are exploring the vision for a new sustainable urban quarter at the heart of the proposed new district of North East Cambridge.
The project is currently called the Core Site, North East Cambridge (shown on the attached map). The aim is to deliver over 5,000 new homes on the Core Site over the next 20 years, along with shops, workplaces, education, community and leisure facilities, and open spaces. This opportunity is enabled by the proposed relocation of Anglian Water’s Cambridge Waste Water Treatment Plant, with the support of Homes England, and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.
Cambridge City Council is currently bringing forward an Area Action Plan (AAP) for the wider district, within which the Core Site is located, which could deliver a total of 8,000 new homes in ‘an inclusive, walkable, low-carbon new city district with a lively mix of homes, workplaces, services and social spaces, fully integrated with surrounding neighbourhoods’. The Core Site has a key role to play in delivering this vision.
The landowners of the Core Site - Anglian Water and Cambridge City Council - have selected U+I, in partnership with TOWN, as master developers for the site will be working to bring forward proposals for the site and, eventually, a planning application.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) is currently in the process of developing a new wayfinding system for the communal, external spaces within the campus. This system will include new maps and signage to improve navigation in public spaces for staff, patients and visitors to the site and help to reduce stress when visiting the campus. In order to fully understand how the campus is currently used and the key issues, we would like to gain your invaluable input.
Note that the new wayfinding system will be focussing on the public space rather than the internal space of individual buildings, please limit your feedback to your experience of finding your way through the external public space on campus. Thank you in advance.

The county is planning to put up bollards to stop drivers/cars from using the unofficial carpark at Skater's Meadow. This carpark has long been a source of danger to people walking and cycling to Granchester Meadows.

Also please note the A10 SLO for a reduction of the speed limit on these sections from 50mph to 40mph.

From looking at the plans my main concerns
Narrow sections - less than 3m wide, which is not LTN 1/20 compliant and very unambitious seeing as 11,000 homes are being built in Waterbeach.
The separation from the carriageway is also very unambitious at 0,5m and not a properly segregated verge. 0,5m is the absolute minimum suggested in LTN 1/20. 1m is the minimum recommended.

Cambridgeshire County Council proposes to make the above Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police the effect of which will be to :-
Prohibit all motorised vehicles on Oakington Road, Longstanton from a point 460 metres south east of its junction with Wilson’s Road to Longstanton Road, Oakington and Westwick at a point 370 metres north west of its junction with Lowbury Crescent.
Access for pedestrians, cyclists & equestrians will be maintained with provision for access for adjacent agricultural landowners and emergency service vehicles.

A pair of one way swing gates have been installed on Coldhams common. This blocks the path for people like me with a cargo bike because it is not possible to hold the gates open and hold the bike at the same time. I spoke with someone on the site and they said it was needed to stop cows escaping while they replaced the cattle grid. Surely there is a better way that don’t stop access for cargo bikes?

Trinity College has begun to consult on a proposal to transform a parcel of adjacent agricultural land to the east of Histon and Impington into Cambridge Science Park North. The proposal is at early stages with a submission having been made into the Call for Sites process which forms part of the Greater Cambridge local plan
Science Park North will be created on land which is currently used for farming, but is located close to the Park and Ride and the waste transfer site which are both accessed from the A10.
It is located close to the Area Action Plan land to the east and the Project Team is working closely with AAP Members on a number of areas which are of mutual interest. It is anticipated that the timescale for the AAP process will match the development timescale for the Greater Cambridge Local Plan and the CSP North timetable is planned to complement this.
CSP North is also located close to Cambridge Regional College, which sits between the existing science park and the proposed expansion land. Discussions are underway with CRC with the ambition of providing facilities for greater collaboration in the future which could be in the form of expansion but also education and work apprenticeship schemes for future students of the CRC.
The transport strategy for Cambridge Science Park North is targeted at complementing the improvement plans for the existing science park. The initial aim is to ensure that there is no increase in car use across the two sites, with a medium and long-term target of reducing car usage across the two sites completely.
The early ideas are to provide a consolidated space for parking which will serve both Science Park sites, which will be linked to a mobility hub providing pedestrian, cycling, autonomous vehicle and sustainable mass transit facilities for onward travel. These will utilise existing infrastructure such as Mereway Cycle Route and the Guided Busway as well as proposed infrastructure such as The CAM.
These proposals will improve access to the whole of Cambridge, reducing current traffic on the Milton Road by providing a hub serving the wider AAP area including access to Cambridge North Station.

The link from Barton Road to the Lammas Land car park (and the car park itself) have been closed to all use by the County Council for some development work. This is a buisy cycle route, and no effort has been put into providing a diversion. Currently most people are cycling across the grass behind the hedge beside the road (though how long this will remain possible if it rains is unclear); an alternative is to use other paths across Lammas Land, but they are narrow, not actually marked for cycling, and it's further.
According to a notice at the junction with Barton Road this work will continue to the start of December. There was and is no warning when approaching from east of the river.
