  • New barrier on Addenbrookes busway bridge

Created by Finlay KM // 1 thread

A new set of barriers has appeared on the hospital side of the usway bridge at Addenbrookes.
Creates the usual set of problems for cargo bikes and less confident bike users, with the added bonus of being on a steep hill that ices up regularly, and right next to a busway with a record of squishing people who fall onto it.

  • Difficult crossing on Airport Way (near the school)

Created by Jacob Bramley // 1 thread

This appears to be a busy crossing, and is used by parents and children heading to and from the school, both by cycle and on foot.

The chicane barriers make it difficult to cross here with a standard bicycle, let alone a cargo bike or trailer. The cross-hatched area is much more practical to use than the island, but leaves users exposed on a fast road, especially considering that primary-school children are likely to be using this facility.

On the western side, there is nowhere to wait to cross, so riders with large cycles an trailers have to block the path for other users whilst they wait to cross.

This is outside the area of the Cherry Hinton North development, but both motor and cycle traffic through here is likely to increase when that is completed, so it is somewhat related.

  • King's Parade anti-terrorism barriers

    Martin Lucas-Smith // 1 thread

The Councils are proposing that King's Parade have some kind of anti-terrorism blockage, presumably to prevent a car being driven at speed into a large number of pedestrians.

Clearly it is important that cycle access is not impeded unduly.

  • Teversham bike route entrance blocked off

Created by Claire Taylor // 1 thread

I can't see a thread/issue about this, although it has been there for 9 months now.

At the end of march this year, the metal barriers shown appeared in Teversham, by the school, along with a sign indicating that the bike route starts at the barriers.

Previously the path started earlier, near the school. I can understand this wasn't ideal, due to the school being there, however, there is now no way to access the bike path legally except by riding up a kerb and across the grass.

I have therefore been carefully riding up to the gate since then when using this route.

I was annoyed about this an considered complaining at the time but I foolishly assumed as long as I was careful this was a live and let live situation and everyone would be fine with it, but today someone gave me abuse for this, so now I am annoyed and wondering who I can complain to about the restriction of the cycle route that was there previously.

Incidentally there was nothing up in the area about this happening, although I cycle through there regularly. (I don't live in Teversham though).
