  • Department of Transport’s Shared Electric Bike Programme in Chesterton

Created by Roxanne (Cycling Campaign Officer) // 1 thread

Compass Bikes, looks at deploying e-bikes (Raleigh Captus models) with community groups and housing providers, of which one is Hundred Houses in Chesterton. In short, the 5 e-bikes will be stationed at Hundred Houses’ head office on Scotland Road, and made available to staff and residents on a shared usage basis for a six month trial (launching March 14th)

Should there be any potential collaboration angles Compass Bikes would be very keen to discuss these further.

  • BikeBus Explorer - Sunday+BankHoliday service - Any user comments?

Created by Rohan Wilson // 1 thread

Bike Bus Explorer tows a 30-bike(?) trailer. Picks/drops bikes at Cambridge Station, Brooklands Avenue, Barton Rd then a linear route to Wimpole, and a ring from Arrington via Hatley, Gamlingay, Gransdens, Longstowe.

It leaves the station Sunday and Bank Holidays at 09:00, 11:30, 14:30, 17:00. Last return to Cambridge arrives 19:12.

A leaflet gives info about the rural destinations including Wildlife Trust sites, and a map showing the bus route, stops and suggested rural cycle rides. Operations exclude Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, suggesting it operates all year.

    Objected.
This comment is on behalf of Sustrans, the charity that’s enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day.

We are concerned that there may not be sufficient space in the rear "bikes and bins" (unattractive combination!) room. It is important that the Sheffield stands indicated should be installed as shown, and to park or remove a bike, rearward space is essential (See the City Council Cycle Parking Guide), adequate as drawn. But only five refuse bins are shown, one for each apartment. Normally each would need 3 bins (black, blue, green), for which there would clearly be insufficient space.
