  • Corduroy paving used instead of textured

Created by Dan Hulme // 0 threads

The new shared-use path here is lovely except they've installed corduroy paving, with the very narrow bumps, on the newest stretch, to indicate the cycling and pedestrian halves, instead of the usual fat textured paving. Last week in the bad weather it caught my wheel and I skidded on it, only just avoided coming off completely. I couldn't get a photo because it was after dark, but you know the paving I mean. It's not suitable for cycle paths under any circumstances and I don't know why they've used it here. The section they installed previously, along Gregory Park up to the back entrance of the P&R, has the correct paving.

  • loose surface on busway path

    Richard G // 1 thread

There is a lot of non-slip surface, that red colour stuff, that has rubbed off and collected just on the bend as the path goes under the bridge, as you leave the P&R

Last week, I came past just as someone was being helped back up again, after their bike slipped on the loose surface.. It feels quite treacherous as you cycle over it.

I cant see anywhere, who to contact about removing all the loose material.

Anyone know a good point of contact to report to?

    thanks, Richard

  • Improving Green Dragon Bridge to Riverside

Created by Chris Howell // 1 thread

The stretch of NCN51 along Stourbridge Common between the Green Dragon Bridge and Riverside is hopelessly inadequate for the high volume of traffic, too narrow, surfacing badly breaking up with a number of hazards - rowing coaches, cows, joggers with headphones etc.

Would anyone else support campaigning for a new two way cycle path through that stretch of Stourbridge common to the south of the existing path (through the middle of that bit of common) from the Green Dragon Bridge to an improved access at Riverside, and leave the path by the river to its myriad of other users? Its only going to get busier when the new station opens...

  • Inappropriate surface treatment for cycle route ie Fen Road, Milton

Created by Heather Coleman // 1 thread

I've had a letter from the council. Not sure if someone put a copy through my door as they knew I was interested in the Fen Road, Milton, as it's dated 30th June which is over two weeks ago.

I think "suface dressing" ie loose chippings, is a totally inappropriate treatment for a road which has not that much motor traffic and rather a lot of cycle traffic. The loose chippings will be a skid and physical hazard for cyclists for months to come.
