Condition 6 - Bike storage
11 - 15 Malden Close Cambridge Cambridgeshire CB5 8NU
https://idox.cambridge.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=OV6TBRDX0AS00
Application reference : 16/1898/COND6
The condition states:
“The development hereby permitted shall not be occupied until details of facilities for the covered, secured parking of bicycles for use in connection with the development hereby permitted shall be submitted to and approved by the local planning authority in writing. The approved facilities shall be provided in accordance with the approved details before use of the development commences.”
The cover letter only shows a picture of the type of stands that will be used and refers to a drawing number. There is no mention of the number of stands or the type of cover or secure shelter that will be used. No other useful documents are loaded to the portal.
Also, we need to indicate that the term ‘bike storage’ is incorrect and should not be used by planning officers when setting conditions.

We have reached the final phase of the project to open up restricted streets to two-way for cyclists in Cambridge - and residents can have their say.
Many restricted streets have already been opened up to two-way cycling over the last 10 years following a Department for Transport trial. Allowing cyclists to be exempt from no-entry restrictions, and to travel both ways on one-way streets, is a cost effective and easy way of expanding the city cycle network.
After consultation with residents and stakeholders last year followed by a meeting at the Cambridge Joint Area Committee in January, we are proposing to make 15 one-way or restricted entry streets two-way for cycling. Local residents will be notified of these Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) regarding proposed two-way cycling in restricted streets in Cambridge.
Please email policyandregulation AT cambridgeshire.gov.uk by 1 September 2017 with your comments.

I am very concerned that there is no cycling permitted along any of the many paths crossing Christ's Pieces. I fully understand that the main path leading from Christ's Walk over to the Grafton should be cycle-free as there is almost always a high volume of pedestrian use on this path. However, the other paths are almost always virtually, if not completely empty of pedestrians and could easily allow cyclists. Living near Mitchams Corner, I frequently cycle into town and if I want to go to the Grand Arcade or St. Andrews Street, I am not allowed to cycle across Christ's Pieces and park my bike in Christ's Walk. Instead, I am supposed to run the gauntlet of buses and taxis (see panoramic picture), in Emmanuel Street or, equally dangerous, Hobson Street via King Street. Hobson Street is so narrow that if a bus or taxi is coming down it, a cyclist is forced to leap off and drag the bike onto the pavement. Lorries are also often parked for deliveries too! I have raised this issue with Jocelynne Scutt who has said she would look into it. I consider it urgent!

A minor application, however, the provision of details for cycle parking is to show the footprint of a square building. We could object on grounds of needing more information.

17/1391/S73 | Section 73 application to vary conditions 18 and 24 of permission 14/1111/FUL (Demolition of existing garages, to be replaced by a two storey building to provide 19 additional hotel bedrooms (4 within roof space) an underground car park for 16 cars and 12 bicycles and an extension to the existing semi-basement hotel facilities), to replace ramp to basement car park with vehicle lift, revisions to Ferry Path and Hamilton Road elevations and change from ground source heat pump to air source heat pump. | 74 - 76 Chesterton Road Cambridge Cambridgeshire CB4 1ER
The changes proposed for this site will change the earlier proposals for cycle parking.
Concern is that cycle parking is only provided for staff and that it is down stairs. (earlier proposals may have allowed for cycling down the car ramp, now that it is a car lift this may not be possible). Insufficient information about ramps to help with cycle access or the layout of the cycle parking.

This is a minor application and the original application is from 2014 but it appears to set a very bad and confused approach to cycle parking (or as they call it 'storage') for what I think are four x 4-bed HMOs so we may want to make comment.
They have a number of bikes randomly leaning on the wall in garages which are also meant to be storing cars. This is a poor standard and I also don't think there is enough room for the number of bikes that should be expected.

The link from Barton Road to the Lammas Land car park (and the car park itself) have been closed to all use by the County Council for some development work. This is a buisy cycle route, and no effort has been put into providing a diversion. Currently most people are cycling across the grass behind the hedge beside the road (though how long this will remain possible if it rains is unclear); an alternative is to use other paths across Lammas Land, but they are narrow, not actually marked for cycling, and it's further.
According to a notice at the junction with Barton Road this work will continue to the start of December. There was and is no warning when approaching from east of the river.
