The consultation runs until Tuesday 18 June. There are two consultation events at Rock Road Library, 69 Rock Road, Cambridge on Tuesday 21 May and Tuesday 21 May.
GCP should be applying for the second Tranche. This was discussed at the May monthly meeting where we created a list of possible schemes. This issue is designed to both create additional items for this list, and also expand on the needs of each of these items.
Cambridge University is planning to refurbish 1 Regent Street for its Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).
Currently there are very anti-cycling 'No cycle parking' notices along the railings, which is hardly an example of sustainability leadership.
We should use this as an opportunity to get cycle parking along here.

Contractors are currently rebuilding the section of the Stapleford to Sawston cycleway (part of NCN11) between Sawston traffic lights and the junction with the Sawston Bypass. This isn't a problem in itself and is welcome but it is a bit surprising - while this section of the path was uneven in places and rather narrow it was still better that much provision elsewhere (including elsewhere on this cycleway). It looks like it part of this.

Cambridge Biomedical Campus Transport Needs Review report came out a couple of weeks ago. Whilst some of it is good, I think the cycling stuff is poor in general:
- They look at cyclist safety in the surrounding area but due to the dates and area selected, they claim no fatalities. Ignoring Steve Moir's death is insensitive at best.
- I didn't see any mention of NCR 11 passing through the site which suggests to me they didn't even realise
- A tiny bit about air pollution but the word climate doesn't even appear
- 'The segregated route alongside the CGB' - Do they mean segregated from buses?!
- 'Site observations showed the route alongside the Busway to the west of the site to be particularly well used by pedestrians and cyclists and of high quality'. It's unsafe due to lack of separation from buses and pedestrians, too narrow for numbers and given speed differences over bridge and crosswinds.
- Nothing about the bus stops in mandatory cycle lanes
- Section 5.3.3 - peak counts/hour would be very useful
- 'Site visit observations suggest that cycling infrastructure near to CBC is currently performing well with the current demand' - CGB path is way over capacity at peak times. I don't know about the other routes.
I propose complaining about the standard of the cycling part of the report.
Rather pitiful looking front 'garden' with some things sticking out of the wall supposedly providing eight cycle parking spaces. Note that the photograph included in the D&A statement seems to show 'no cycles' signs plastered on the same wall.

They are proposing to expand the car park by adding 45 car parking spaces along the service road that crosses the Tins.
Transport Statement section 5.2.5 describes a set of measures to create proper visibility splays at the crossing of the Tins and reinforce the give-way markings for drivers. This sounded great...
However, Appendix D several diagrams and some of them show give-way markings being painted on the cycleway in addition to the service road.
In contrast, the existing situation is that the Tins is continuous and the give-way markings are painted on the service road.
This may only be a mistake in some of the diagrams, it does not appear to be mentioned in the text, but we must object that these diagrams show an interruption of the Tins and a degradation of the cycleway.

Gallagher Estate, master planners of Orchard Park will soon hand over the highways for adoption by the County Council.
We won't be able to fix this car centric development, but within it there are many pavement cycleways, "cyclists dismount" signs, cul-de-sac signs and others which are wrong or don't apply. There are also issues with dropped kerbs etc.
I am looking for volunteers to audit Orchard Park, making a list of corrections we require before Gallaghers hands this project over.
Outline of issues affecting Histon Rd between Gilbert Rd and Victoria Rd. This stretch is without bike lane. Car parking on one side only, from Victoria Rd to pedestrian access to Recreation Ground.
The fuller length to the north is also part of a City Deal scheme.
AstraZeneca have announced they will by 2016 move to the Biomedical Campus on the Addenbrooke's site. We need to engage with them.
Hello, I'm wondering how many other Cambridge cyclists have shared the experience I've had (about once per month now) regarding a particular elderly lady who insists that bikes are not allowed on the "footpath" adjacent to the Trumpington allotments, between Shelford Rd & the new busway in CB2. This path seems clearly demarcated as a shared pedestrian-cycle path on the cycle maps provided at the council link (below). However, it is not clearly labeled as such on the path itself, leading her to become quite angry with any cyclist who gets near her & her dog while they're out walking (and obstructing the path to underscore her point). "It's a footpath" she yells, and storms away.
So my questions are 1) am I correct in interpreting the council map (below) as permitting bikes on this path and 2) how might one go about requesting proper signage, clearly saying bikes & pedestrians are both welcome?

The cycle lanes here are a mish-mash of narrow legacy infrastructure, and are often awkward to use.
